The anatomy and physiology module is taught by Dr Andrew Mc  Gonnigle, a medically trained yoga anatomy teacher empowering yoga teachers to teach from a more science-informed perspective.

Andrew has also been a yoga teacher for over 15 years and his passion is educating yoga teachers to explore in detail the anatomy and physiology of our incredible bodies and to apply this knowledge to practising and teaching yoga.

Each topic we delve into is related directly back to the yoga asana practice. There is a strong focus on using this knowledge of anatomy and physiology to make asana practices as inclusive as possible. Time is dedicated to exploring how to best communicate with and support students who come to class with common injuries and conditions. There are dedicated yoga practices throughout the course to ensure full integration of the knowledge.

My journey into teacher training began straight after qualifying in 2016, when my mentor Paula Mitten invited me to assist her on several 200-hour trainings. I learned so much from Paula’s guidance and those early experiences sparked a deep passion for training teachers.

I later travelled to Spain to complete a 300-hour advanced training with Vidya Heisel of Frog Lotus Yoga, bringing my certification to 500 hours. Since then, I’ve continued to study extensively—training in Chair Yoga, Special Yoga, Yoga Therapy with YTI, Pregnancy Yoga, and Yin Yoga with Josh Summers. I truly believe that our learning journey never ends.

I went on to become a tutor for Durga Ireland alongside Paula, and I knew then that supporting others to teach was my true calling. Last year, I proudly launched my own 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training, and I’m honoured to work alongside an incredible team of educators:

  • Mary Gardiner of Yoga Picnic and Fire and Earth studio

  • Dr. Yogi-  Andrew McGonigle teaching anatomy. Andrew is a fully qualified medical doctor with a passion for yoga. He has created the most fantastic online anatomy and physiology course especially for yoga teachers and we are so proud to use it as part of our training

  • Aparna Shukla on yogic philosophy and ancient texts

  • Nicole O’Kelly specialising in women’s health and relaxation

Each teacher brings a wealth of expertise, wisdom, and heart. Together, we’ve created a truly unique and enriching training experience—one that blends tradition, science, and soul.

Read on to find out more about our training, let me know if you would like to visit the studio and have a chat about our upcoming trainings,

Christine.
